Collecting Quotes

Updated: Mar 13, 2019

I have become an avid collector of quotes over the years especially from the many books I read, a lot of which are motivational, spiritual and transformation books.

Some of my most inspiring quotes come from my favourite writers and motivational speakers such as Lisa Nichols, Eckhart Tolle, Sheryl Strayed, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Maya Angelou. I have put together some quotes to help you bounce back, be more in the present or to add to your gratitude practice. Whatever these quotes inspire in you, I hope you find them really helpful.

10 quotes by Eckhart Tolle on being more present

Eckhart Tolle is a spiritual teacher, best known as the suthor of 'the power of now' and 'a new earth' I came across him in Oprah's Super Soul conversations and I became sucked in to his teachings about the power of the present and how to let go of ego.

-Realise deeply that the present moment is all you have. Make the 'now' the primary focus of your life

-Some changes look negative on the surface but you will realise that space is being created in your life for something new to emerge

-Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance

-Sometimes letting things go is an act of far greater power than defending and hanging on

-The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it

-Whatever you fight, you strengthen and, whatever you resist persists

-The power of creating a better future is contained in the present moment. You create a good future by creating a good present

-Time isn't precious at all, because it is an illusion. What you perceive as precious is not time but the one point that is out of time: Now. That is precious indeed. The more you are focused on time - past and future - the more you miss the Now, the most precious thing there is.

-Realise deeply that the present moment is all you have. Make the Now the primary focus of your life.

-Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness. How do you know this is the experience you need? - Because this is the experience you are having at the moment.

Sheryl Strayed Quotes from 'Tiny Beautiful Things'

“Most things will be okay eventually, but not everything will be. Sometimes you'll put up a good fight and lose. Sometimes you'll hold on really hard and realize there is no choice but to let go. Acceptance is a small, quiet room.”

“Don't surrender all your joy for an idea you used to have about yourself that isn't true anymore.”

“Nobody will protect you from your suffering. You can't cry it away or eat it away or starve it away or walk it away or punch it away or even therapy it away. It's just there, and you have to survive it. You have to endure it. You have to live through it and love it and move on and be better for it and run as far as you can in the direction of your best and happiest dreams across the bridge that was built by your own desire to heal.”

“The useless days will add up to something. The shitty waitress jobs. The hours writing in your journal. The long meandering walks. The hours reading poetry and story collections and novels and dead people’s diaries and wondering about sex and God and whether you should shave under your arms or not. These things are your becoming.”

“Whatever happens to you belongs to you. Make it yours. Feed it to yourself even if it feels impossible to swallow. Let it nurture you, because it will.”

“But the reality is we often become our kindest, most ethical selves only by seeing what it feels like to be a selfish jackass first.”
